Introduction :
The Department of Library and Information Sciences was established in 1985 within the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities for the education of Library and Information Sciences (LIS) at different levels. Presently, the Department offers following three programmes, i.e. Certificate in Librarianship, B.A (LIS) and Master of Library and Information Sciences (MLIS), all through distance learning system, enabling students to enhance their respective qualification and skill without leaving their homes and/or jobs.
Objectives :
To produce skilled manpower in the field of library and information science which may run every kind of library or help professional library staff
Future Plans :
The Department also intends to launch M.Phil and Ph.D in near future.
Academic Facilities :
Printed study guides, allied material and assignments sent to every student besides tutorial and workshop support where applicable. Free browsing and reading facility at AIOU libraries. Free internet surfing and HEC-sponsored databeses and online journals searching facility at AIOU central library.
