|| DIRECTORATE OF ICT (COMPUTER CENTER)
| Establishment :
|| When the University was established in 1974 no computing facilities were available. As the University expanded with the introduction of more programs and courses, the number of registered students increased ineach semester. There was felt an urgent need to establish Computer support in order to providean efficient, effective and timely information. The Computer Centre was hence established in 1980.
| Introduction :
||Initially an IBM System-34 was installed in 1982 to meet the requirements but with the rapid increase in the enrolment, the University replaced the system with a new machine ICL ME-29 in 1988with assistance from ODA, UK. In view of the unprecedented student enrolment over the years and multifarious expanding needs the University installed the Distributed Resource System 6000 Unix based Computer System with an open architecture in 1994. Which has now been replaced by Intel Xeon Servers using platform Linux in 2002.
Due to computerized procedures, AIOU is now able to enroll thousands of students, mail the study materials, conduct and tabulate the results within a limited period of six months. Presently, Computer Center is facilitating the University in following areas;
Student Admission and Registration System
Fee record and Reconciliation System
Enquiry System for Admission
Tutor Registration System
