Name : COMMONWEALTH YOUTH PROGRAM
Establishment : CYP-Diploma on “Youth in Development” is being offered by the Allama Iqbal Open University in collaboration with Commonwealth Youth Programme, Commonwealth Secretariat since 2006. After successful completion of its two phases, the third phase has been implemented.
Introduction : For many the world may seem like an old place, yet there are 2.8 billion people under the age of 25 out of world population of 6 billion. Nine out of 10 of these young people live in developing countries. The United Nations defines period of youth as 15 to 24 years. Pakistan, however, considers youth period as 15-29 years which account for about 60 million in number i.e. 37.5% of the entire population.
Pakistan has entered a demographic transition phase where child dependency is declining and youth share in the population is rising. High levels of female inactivity across the education categories and unemployment for males as well as females urge a strong youth development strategy in Pakistan to reap the benefits of the on-going demographic transition.
Objectives : This programme aims at providing necessary skills and proficiency to the youth of Pakistan to equip them securing gainful employment.
i. Fill the void of expertise in youth affairs which can be a potential force to work at policy, planning, management and administrative level and conduct innovative research independently to become effective and efficient partners in nation building.
ii. Inculcate multi-disciplinary and holistic approach in producing experts in youth affairs.
iii. Introduce research as an integral component of youth studies.
iv. Foster academic excellence, skill development and attitudinal changes amongst the students of youth studies
Future Plans : -
Academic Facilities : Silent Features
