Introduction

The Associate Degree in Psychology at Allama Iqbal Open University is a Comprehensive two-year undergraduate program requiring the completion of 67 credit hours.

OBJECTIVES

To provide students with foundational knowledge of core psychological concepts, theories, empirical findings, and historical developments.

To enable the application of psychological principles to individual, social, educational, and organizational contexts.

To prepare graduates for diverse career pathways and advanced academic studies in psychology.

Contribute to addressing mental health concerns & promoting well-being in Pakistan

PROGRAM LEARNING OURCOMES

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be able:

To demonstrate understanding of major psychological concepts, theories, and historical perspectives.

To apply scientific reasoning to analyze psychological phenomena.

To use psychological principles to address real-world issues in mental health, education, and organizations.

To practice psychology in accordance with ethical standards and cultural sensitivity.

To pursue employment or higher education in psychology and related professional fields.

STUDY MATERIAL

The university provides study guides to every student preferably in electronic format. However, the students may use open educational resources available online or in libraries for their coursework and research purposes.

EVALUATION SYSTEM

The assessment & evaluation system of the program is as per AIOU assessment policy, rules regulations. Moreover, the policy rules and regulations amended from time to time shall also apply. As per current policy, students are required to attend an online workshop, upload two assignments on the LMS, and attempt an online quiz besides taking the final examination for each course.

Eligibility Criteria

An applicant having an Intermediate degree or equivalent with any subject(s) from any Board or institution is eligible for admission. All students who fulfill the above criteria will be given admission.

Medium of Instruction

English language will be the medium of study. The students may not opt for any other language for any of the components of this program except some compulsory courses offered in Urdu language.

Teaching Methodology

The program is offered through Open Distance Learning (ODL) mode. There will be workshops for each course as per AIOU policy/rules as amended from time to time.

Introduction

The Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Allama Iqbal Open University is a Structured four-year degree program comprising 136 credit hours. It serves as a robust platform for those aiming to achieve academic excellence and pursue advanced postgraduate studies or specialized careers in the field of psychology.

To develop scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and basic research skills in psychology.
To promote ethical practice, social responsibility, and respect for cultural and individual diversity.
To strengthen written and oral communication skills in conveying psychological knowledge.
To prepare graduates for diverse career pathways and advanced academic studies in psychology.

PROGRAME LEARNING OUTCOMES

STUDY MATERIAL

INTERNSHIP

In the 7th semester the student will have to do an internship for three credit hours to gain practical experience in clinical settings, schools, or relevant organizations, applying theoretical knowledge in real-world contexts.

CAPSTONE PROJECT

In the 8th semester, students will have to register for the capstone project which carries three credit hours. The students will be required to perform the project work under the supervision of an advisor assigned by the Department. There will be an intensive workshop for discussion of project proposals of the students at the start of the 8th semester. After completion of the capstone project, the students will appear before a viva-voce committee to defend the project. The guidelines for the capstone project will be provided by the department.

Eligibility Criteria

Admission to the BS Psychology program is offered on an open merit basis in accordance with university policy. Applicants must have completed Intermediate (FA/F.Sc) or an equivalent qualification. All candidates who meet this eligibility criterion are considered for admission to the program.
