BS Health And Physical Education

Introduction

The Program in BS Health and Physical Education is an essential need of Pakistan in the current socio-political scenario. The program will indirectly contribute to promoting tolerance and mutual co-existence in society. Therefore, the government of Pakistan has introduced the program as per National Policy and one compulsory seat of physical education instructor/ teacher has also been created in every school and college.

Allama Iqbal Open University in collaboration with the Pakistan Sports Board had already successful experience of offering the diploma, graduate, and postgraduate programs in Physical Education in 2006, which were accordingly approved by all the Statutory bodies of AIOU. The program provided face-to-face education and intensive practical training at the multifarious sports infrastructure spread over the vast Pakistan sports complex.

STED plans to launch BS Health and Physical Education, initially, the program was approved on blended mode and the scheme of studies was approved by all statuary bodies. Based upon HEC Undergraduate Policy 2023 Scheme of Studies has been revised.

All the modalities related to admission, fee structure, hiring study center (human and physical resources), formative and summative assessment, and certification will be as per the BS policy of AIOU.

OBJECTIVES

In the era of the educational revolution, the main objective of the BS (4-Years) program in Health and Physical Education is to prepare graduates to have a deep knowledge of the subjects as well as the ability to analyze a given situation and draw conclusions. The program aims to produce a broad base of graduates able to face the challenges of the modern world.

The Educational objectives of the program are:

BS Health and Physical Education is designed to produce graduates with sound knowledge of the theoretical and practical subject matter.
Along with the knowledge of the subject they would also have a broader view of other disciplines of social as well as physical sciences. It will enable the students to interact with other branches of knowledge and strengthen their understanding of society.
The graduates are equipped with essential tools and techniques of research. It will enable them to analyze any given situation/ issue and suggest possible solutions.
The graduates are to be empowered to establish and develop a viable and forceful line between theory/concepts and practice in Physical Education and Sport Sciences.
The collective efforts behind this course are to create cohesiveness among the institutions and personnel of sports and physical education.
The similarity among the outlines has been developed to interrelate the discipline in the global perspective creating an environment of healthy competition and equal opportunities for all at national and international levels.

Dr. Aneela Alam have completed her doctoral degree from Fatima Jinnah Women University Rawalpindi, with scholarship granted from HEC. In her PhD, she worked on incorporation of Blended learning, specifically, Flipped Classroom in Education context.

She is Double Gold Medalist in her M.ED and MPhil as well. Her areas of expertise are; ICT in Education, Teacher Education and Teachers’ Training, and Online Education.

She is actively in touch with conducting multiple Professional Development Training Workshops for Teachers.

Workshop

The online workshop for each course will comprise of 12 hours, with 2 hours daily for 6 days except for the teaching practice and project as per AIOU policy. Each semester will have a workshop for the courses offered in that particular semester. There will be an online quiz for every course at the end of the workshop.

Introduction

B.Ed (4 years) program focuses on education and training of prospective teachers which grows out of a profound belief in the transformative power of education. Our mission is to promote the development of highly qualified and efficient teaching professionals who are prepared to creatively contribute to the social, cultural, and educational development of a globally oriented, pluralistic, and diverse society. Introduction

Department of Secondary Teacher Education offers MPhil in Teacher Education Program that is designed to prepare scholars who have grasp of the knowledge of discipline of Education in general and Teacher Education in particular. This program establishes a cadre of specialists and professionals who can contribute to the body of knowledge by guiding and conducting high level research. It provides opportunities to teachers to enhance their professional knowledge and competency to perform their roles in the classrooms; schools and community in a better and more effective way. Teaching in today’s classroom is different than teaching in the Yesterday’s classrooms and it would be way different and more challenging in tomorrow’s classrooms. MPhil in Teacher Education through various courses of 24 credit hours and research thesis of 12 credit hours aims to equip scholars with necessary knowledge; skills and dispositions to effectively perform their responsibilities as a teacher, researcher and practitioner.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants for MPhil Teacher Education must possess MEd/BS Ed/MA or BEd (4 Years) degree in education with at least 2nd division or equivalent CGPA/GPA.
Admission to MPhil will be granted on merit basis according to the approved criteria of AIOU.

Selection Process

Selection of the candidates will be made strictly on the basis of merit/criteria laid down by the department/ university.

Minimum 2 Years (4 Semesters), Maximum 4 Years (8 Semesters)

Medium of Instruction

Medium of Instruction of MPhil Teacher Education is English.

Teaching Methodology

The instructional modes shall include student and tutor face to face contact for approved /prescribed period, teaching workshops, video conferencing, e-mail, internet, telephone coaching on prescribed schedules, broadcast and non-broadcast audio visual programs etc.

The minimum number of compulsory face to face teaching hours shall be 48 for each course of three credit hours.

The evaluation of 24 credit hours course work of MS/MPhil or will be conducted by the controller of examinations as per prevailing practice of the university.

The distribution of continuous assessment and final examination of each 3-credit hours course work shall be as follows:

i) Continuous Assessment & Mid Term 50% (20+30)

ii) Final Examination 50%

Pass percentage in aggregate shall be 50%. Students have to pass continuous assessment/assignments and to maintain the minimum mandatory class attendance of 70% in each course.

Two Weeks workshop for proposal development after enrollment in course 3713 thesis. Student have to develop and defend proposal in front of Research Proposal Committee.

Thesis

Twelve Credit Hours Thesis: students will work under the supervision of approved supervisor and submit quarterly progress reports to the department.

Practical

Practical and experiments if required during the conduct of research are being arranged by students and supervisors in collaboration with educational institutions.

Viva

Viva Voce will be conducted after approval of external and internal examiners.

Introduction

PhD Teacher Education program intends to prepare leadership, researchers and practitioners in the field of teacher education. The nature of this program is face to face and is composed of 54 total credit hours, maximum credit hours per semester are 9, total number of semesters are 6, course work duration is 18 weeks, research thesis credit hours are 36, and it has two weeks synopsis workshops as well. Students synopsis are approved by the Board of Advance Studies and Research, (BASR). After the submission of thesis viva is conducted according to the external evaluation rules as prescribed in AIOU PhD rules and regulations. Assessment procedure of this program also assignment, midterm and final exam.

Eligibility Criteria

Graduate holding MS/MPhil in the relevant area or equivalent with GPA 3.00/Ist Division will be eligible for admission in PhD Programme.
Test and interview will be conducted by the department concerned.
Candidate will apply for admission on prescribed form to the concerned chairman of the department. If the candidate wishes to apply in more than one specialization, he/she has to apply separately for each specialization.
Admission will be strictly on merit and on approved criteria.

Selection Process

After the closing date of applications, short listed students are called for test on prescribed schedule. Students who qualify the test securing 70% marks in test are eligible for interview. Final merit is based on academic percentage, work experience, publications of HEC recognized journals, marks obtained in test and interview.

Introduction

In increasingly technology-driven educational landscape it is imperative that 21st century learners upgrade their skills and become proficient in the use of technology in every walk of life and to effectively facilitate the learning process. Educators and other professionals therefore must be able to design, deliver and manage learning environments both face-to-face and online. While embracing this paradigm shift of technology, Secondary Teacher Education Department (STED) is launching BS Education in Instructional Design and Technology Program.

Overall, this program focuses on instructional design process, learning theories, models, strategies, media, communication delivery models and interactive technologies, web designing and programming etc.

Therefore, using the principles and practices of adult education, this program concentrates on following three areas:

Building a foundation and conceptual framework for educational and instructional design process.
Developing instructional strategies and skills to facilitate adult learning.
Using media, web and other ICTs to support learning

TARGETED CANDIDATES

The program targets persons who are engaged or fostering future career in web designing, programming, development and delivery of instruction through media, online evaluation and management of educational and instructional programs delivered or supported by a variety of instructional technologies in following capacities:
