The Directorate of Public Relations was founded right after the establishment of AIOU in 1974. The Directorate is primarily, responsible for coordinating all aspects of public relations activities through a wide range of media to develop and sustain good relationships between the university and its major stakeholders. The roles, responsibilities and demands of the directorate have been considerably enhanced in the wake of highly fluid and dynamic world of social media. Thus, it carries a unique significance in upholding the prestigious and highly privileged image of the university by the virtue of being the second largest open university of the world and 1st of its kind in Asia which provides educational facilities to hundreds of thousands of students.




  1. To create awareness regarding various measures of the university for promotion of education in the country.
  2. To build the positive image of the University.
  3. To remove misconceptions related to Distance Education System.
  4. To encourage students, especially the marginalized sections of the society to avail the educational services of AIOU.

The Allama Iqbal Open University was established in May, 1974, with the main objectives of providing educational opportunities to masses and to those who cannot leave their homes and jobs. During all these past years, the University has more than fulfilled this promise.
