Introduction

Since the total program of the Open University is unique in its features, the library offers resources and services. The library is a key facility on the Central Campus. The library supports the preparation of courses and the pursuit of research through its resources and services and provides an in-house audio-visual aids and equipment services. The library facilities also remain open to students during on-campus workshops/seminars etc. The library has thousands of print and non-print materials to provide academic facilities to the students and teachers. The periodicals section receives 48 professional journals and 61 light reading magazines regularly. The theses section of the library carries about 3000 theses on different subjects. the clientele for theses comprises researchers, scholars and students from within and outside the university. The SADERC (South Asian Distance Education Resource Center) carries video, CDs, audio-cassettes, microfiche, slides etc. on a variety of subject. A Satellite Dish Receiver has also been installed to provide viewing facility of various international news channels to the readers. Internet facility is available in the library which is being widely used by the faculty, staff and students of the university.

The Allama Iqbal Open University was established in May, 1974, with the main objectives of providing educational opportunities to masses and to those who cannot leave their homes and jobs. During all these past years, the University has more than fulfilled this promise.
