Introduction

The Legal Section of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), Islamabad serves as the University's central legal office, providing professional legal support in matters relating to administration, academic affairs, and institutional compliance.

Headed by the Deputy Registrar (Legal) as Incharge Legal Section, the Section safeguards the University's legal interests by ensuring that its actions, policies, and decisions are consistent with applicable laws, statutory provisions, and University  Statutes, Rules and Regulations.

Objectives

Functions & Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate all litigation involving the University before courts, tribunals, and other legal forums across Pakistan.
  • Liaise with the University's legal counsels and Legal Advisors / Consultants for effective handling and follow-up of court cases and other litigation matters.
  • Prepare and process para-wise comments, replies, case briefs, reports, concise statements and legal documents in consultation with relevant departments.
  • Review, examine and provide legal vetting of MoUs, LoUs, agreements, contracts, and other legal instruments before execution.
  • Provide legal opinions and advisory services on administrative, academic, contractual, service, and regulatory matters to academic and administrative & services departments.
  • Coordinate with university’s departments, external organizations, and legal authorities on matters requiring legal consultation / input.
  • Maintain and monitor records of litigation and legal proceedings.
  • Process engagement and remuneration matters relating to legal counsel, where applicable.
