Introduction

Doctor of Philosophy in Special Education (PhD Special Education) prepares scholars, researchers and school leaders and teacher educators. The program is geared to improve the educational and related service programs for the person with disabilities in a variety of setting. It is a research-intensive program and scholars have multiple opportunities to learn and participate in the review of literature, design and implement the research studies, preparation of the research grant proposals, and dissemination of the research reports. PhD Special Education will prepare the professionals for the faculty positions at higher education level.  The program has been designed to accommodate the working professionals and combines with the daily online learning environment in the form of afternoon classes. Each student would have opportunities to demonstrate all kinds of skills required by university level faculty including synthesizing current literature, submitting peer review manuscripts, teaching of graduate level classes, conceiving the research ideas, conducting the research, presenting the research article at national and international level conferences and publication of the research article in the peer review research journals.

Eligibility Criteria

Graduate holding MS/MPhil in Special Education with GPA 3.00/1st division will be eligible for admission in PhD Special Education. Written test and interview will be conducted by the department concerned or as per AIOU policy at the time of admission. Candidate will apply for admission on prescribed form to the concerned chairman of the department. If the candidate wishes to apply in more than one specialization, he/she has to apply separately for each specialization. Admission will be strictly on merit and on approved criteria.

Teaching Methodology

The university allocates the tutors for the guidance of the students and connect them through online AAGHI portal of the university. The assignment submission and evaluation has been conducted through the same AAGHI portal. A student must secure passing marks in assignments as well as in final exams to successfully complete the programme.
