Dr. Muhammad Ajmal is presently working as Associate Professor/Chairman in the department of Distance, Non-Formal & Continuing Education in the Faculty of Education. He is a part of research and teaching at the postgraduate level and supervisor of MPhil and Ph.D. thesis. He has also published many research articles, book chapters and units in the field of Distance Learning System. Meanwhile, his major expertise are Open Distance Learning, Literacy, Technology, and associated teacher education programs. He has worked on numerous research projects with different national and international organizations. He is an approved HEC supervisor and received many research awards. He also participates in social and community development work and has established literacy centers to educate people free of cost. He developed the first teacher training program of literacy and non-formal education. In addition, he arranged significant number of training seminars for University employees for their professional development in the field of open and distance learning system. He visited China, Malaysia, and United Kingdom for different fellowships in the field of Open Distance Learning. He has also worked as  the Controller of Examinations, Director Bureau of University Extension and Special Projects, and Director Center of Instructional Design. He welcomes all the organizations working in the field of open and distance learning for collaboration.

About

The Allama Iqbal Open University was established in May, 1974, with the main objectives of providing educational opportunities to masses and to those who cannot leave their homes and jobs. During all these past years, the University has more than fulfilled this promise.
