Introduction
The department has launched M.Phil program in Mass Communication on pilot basis from Autumn 2000. The program comprises four-credit course and four-credit thesis. The course work spans evolution and advances in mass communication theory and research, sociology of mass media, and methods of behavioral research in social sciences. The main objective of the program is to enable students to understand and explain the dynamics of the social phenomenon of mass communication in Pakistan and specifically to enable them to independently investigate the contents, uses, and effects of mass media in society. The program also aims at contributing necessary baseline inputs through scholarly researches to policy makers in important areas of decision-making. Most importantly, the theoretical and methodological depth and breadth and the perceptiveness of the program's coursework have already won experts acclaim. This program is in fact, mainly focused on to integrate mass communication education with social sector development initiatives. With its focus on social science based mass communication research and theory, this M.Phil program in mass communication studies trains researches, communicalogists and mass communication educators for academic institutions, for NGOs and other public or private sector institutions involved in such other socio-development work that relies or ought to rely, among other things on the use of mass communication for achieving national development objectives. The program is minimum of two-year duration. Medium of instruction is English. At the end of the semester, students are required to attend mandatory workshop for each courses. There are two days workshops for each half credit and four-day workshop for each full credit courses. The mode of teaching of this program is correspondence package including course books, readers and allied material, forth-nightly tutorial, presentation of assignments, and workshop. A great number of students across the country are interested in the in the program. Enrollment in the program is merit based. About 15 students are enrolled in the program every year in the autumn semester. Eligibility for admission to the program is second-class master degree in mass communication from recognized institution.
Eligibility Criteria
Masters Degree in Mass Communication/ Journalism with second division from any recognized University.
Selection Process
Selection of the candidates will be made strictly on the basis of merit/criteria laid down by the Department/ University.

Teaching Methodology
The University allots Study Centre and Tutors for the Students to get guideline accordingly. A student has to secure passing marks in Assignments as well as in final exams to successfully complete concerned Educational Programme.
