Introduction

Department of Secondary Teacher Education offers MPhil in Teacher Education Program that is designed to prepare scholars who have grasp of the knowledge of discipline of Education in general and Teacher Education in particular. This program establishes a cadre of specialists and professionals who can contribute to the body of knowledge by guiding and conducting high level research. It provides opportunities to teachers to enhance their professional knowledge and competency to perform their roles in the classrooms; schools and community in a better and more effective way. Teaching in today’s classroom is different than teaching in the Yesterday’s classrooms and it would be way different and more challenging in tomorrow’s classrooms. MPhil in Teacher Education through various courses of 24 credit hours and research thesis of 12 credit hours aims to equip scholars with necessary knowledge; skills and dispositions to effectively perform their responsibilities as a teacher, researcher and practitioner.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants for MPhil Teacher Education must possess MEd/BS Ed/MA or BEd (4 Years) degree in education with at least 2nd division or equivalent CGPA/GPA.
Admission to MPhil will be granted on merit basis according to the approved criteria of AIOU.

Selection Process

Selection of the candidates will be made strictly on the basis of merit/criteria laid down by the department/ university.

Duration

Minimum 2 Years (4 Semesters), Maximum 4 Years (8 Semesters)

Medium of Instruction

Medium of Instruction of MPhil Teacher Education is English.

Teaching Methodology

The instructional modes shall include student and tutor face to face contact for approved /prescribed period, teaching workshops, video conferencing, e-mail, internet, telephone coaching on prescribed schedules, broadcast and non-broadcast audio visual programs etc.

The minimum number of compulsory face to face teaching hours shall be 48 for each course of three credit hours.    

The evaluation of 24 credit hours course work of MS/MPhil or will be conducted by the controller of examinations as per prevailing practice of the university.

The distribution of continuous assessment and final examination of each 3-credit hours course work shall be as follows:

i) Continuous Assessment & Mid Term                                   50% (20+30)

ii)  Final Examination                                                             50%

 

Pass percentage in aggregate shall be 50%. Students have to pass continuous assessment/assignments and to maintain the minimum mandatory class attendance of 70% in each course.

Semesters

Minimum four semesters, maximum eight semester

Workshop

Two Weeks workshop for proposal development after enrollment in course 3713 thesis. Student have to develop and defend proposal in front of Research Proposal Committee.

Thesis

Twelve Credit Hours Thesis: students will work under the supervision of approved supervisor and submit quarterly progress reports to the department.

Practical

Practical and experiments if required during the conduct of research are being arranged by students and supervisors in collaboration with educational institutions.

Viva

Viva Voce will be conducted after approval of external and internal examiners.

Collaborations

Department collaborates with other departments within education faculty and educational institutions across the country for facilitating students in conduct of research and data collection and practical activities assigned time to time.
