Associate Degree in Mass Communication

Introduction

This degree (Associate Degree in Mass Communication) consists of 69 credit hours (23 courses), and the minimum period for its completion is two years. The program provides a broad overview of the various areas of mass communication such as print media, electronic media, mass communication (practices and processes), development support communication, etc. To complete the General Education requirements, and Disciplinary Requirements of the degree, the students will be required to attend fortnightly tutorials, participate in workshops/ quizzes, and final examination as per HEC/University guidelines.

OBJECTIVES

Objectives of the Associate Degree in Mass Communication (and BS Mass Communication program) are:

To cater the educational needs of our students and to prepare and guide them for pursuing higher studies and research in mass communication.

To enable the students, understand and explain the dynamics of the social phenomena of mass communication and media sociology in Pakistani society.

To meet the professional requirements of media industry and job market.

Eligibility Criteria

Admission will be offered to students having intermediate or equivalent qualification on open merit basis as per the University policy.

COURSES

A student will have to complete courses comprising 69 credit hours. The semester-wise break-up of these courses as per guidelines of the Higher Education Commission is as under.

Workshop

The online workshop for each course will comprise of 12 hours, with 2 hours daily for 6 days except for project as per AIOU policy. Each semester will have a workshop for the courses offered in that particular semester. There will be an online quiz for every course at the end of the workshop.

The teaching practice course will have a face to face workshop.

Assessment Weightage

20% 30% Quiz 50% 50% (in aggregate). However, 40% marks in final exams is mandatory.
