Introduction

This program is designed for teachers, educators and practitioners who desire to enhance their skills and training in the areas of research, testing, curriculum, educational administration and educational psychology. The program is designed to prepare scholars with demonstrated ability to conduct research in their field of elementary and early childhood education. The specialization courses are sufficient to cover the knowledge base and any additional requirements consistent with program goals. The PhD program requires 54 credits which include 18 credits course work and 36 credits thesis. Students will ordinarily complete the program in a minimum period of 3 years.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants holding MS/MPhil or equivalent, in the relevant area, completed with minimum 30 credit hours of coursework and research thesis/ project; and achieved at least CGPA 3.0/4.0 or 1st division will be eligible for applying in PhD programme.

Selection Process

  1. Application and processing fee along with copies of credentials will be uploaded online using CMS.
  2. If a candidate wishes to apply in more than one specialization, he/she has to apply separately for each specialization/programme. Short listing is done on the basis of subject specific criteria as mentioned in the sections below.
  3. Merit will be determined on the basis of educational qualification, experience, as well as score of subject test and interview conducted by the department.
  4. Selected candidates will be intimated by the Directorate of Admission with the advice to deposit fee according to the schedule.

Admissions in PhD are merit based as per criterion approved by HEC and university's statutory bodies.

Online Sessions

For each course there will be a schedule for online weekly classes through AIOU’s Learning Management System. Teachers will coordinate and instruct through the LMS. Attendance in the online classes is compulsory.

Thesis

The student will be allowed to take research thesis after successful completion of coursework and comprehensive exam. Thesis orientation workshop is held at the campus and then synopsis is to be presented and evaluated before the thesis work actually begins. Thesis submission is due within 18 months from the time of notification (it should not go beyond the maximum program duration, i.e. 5 years). Student has to attend advisory meetings and present twice in a seminar. At least one article is to be published before viva voce exam as per HEC approved policy.
