Distance, Non-formal And Continuing Education

The department was established in 1984 and was renamed as Distance, Non-Formal and Continuing Education in 2008. It offers specialized degree programs/courses in Distance, Non-Formal and Continuing Education, Adult Education and Educational Technology at MA Education, MEd, MPhil and PhD (MPhil based) in Education. It also offers short courses; and teacher training to non-formal teachers (Certificate in NFE). Moreover, the department also provides on job training in distance learning system to the academic staff of AIOU.

Introduction

Access to education is one of the fundamental rights of an individual, regardless of age, tribe or social class. Non-formal education have been put in place to substitute formal learning in localities where people do not have opportunities to acquire the formal education, as a way of providing access to education. Keeping in view the ever-increasing demand of education, distance education courses and programs of DNFCE Department provide flexible learning opportunities to both undergraduate and post graduate students, distance education courses include interactive audio/videoconferencing; prerecorded instructional videos; and computer-based Learning Management System (Aaghi LMS) accessed over the internet. Due to the increase in demand for education and training throughout the world, the Department has extended its educational services to overseas students in different countries of the world. The department welcomes its valuable students for their bright future.

Objectives

  1. To provide instructional programs in distance and non-formal education for specialization in this sphere of education.
  2. To collaborate with other institutions for improvement in distance education techniques.
  3. To Provide inservice training to faculty and staff on Open Distance Learning.
  4. To promote culture of research in the field of Open and Distance Learning.
